Self-initiated concept

Orbit Studio

Reframing fixed creative-tool panels as task orbits around a canvas to explore whether spatial relationships can reduce mode switching.

Scope
Product concept, information architecture, interaction prototype
Duration
Three-week prototype study
Tools / Methods
Figma · Prototyping · Interaction mapping
Year

Translucent creative interface modules orbiting a central black canvas
Tools do not need to occupy every edge; they can approach when needed and return to orbit when they are not.

Interaction hypothesis

Replace nested menus with position

The prototype groups functions into prepare, make, inspect, and output regions. Modules reveal full controls near the canvas and retain only status and next action when they recede, making position itself a memorable navigation system.

Core prototype path

  1. 01

    Summon

    Drag from orbit

Drag a module directly into the work area without a mode menu.

  2. 02

    Constrain

    Snap to relationships

Alignment and spacing feedback appears only near a valid relationship.

  3. 03

    Recede

    Keep state, lose the panel

After completion, the module returns to orbit and the canvas regains priority.

Drag the module on the home page to see alignment, spacing, and constraint feedback.
