Editing is not choosing beautiful frames; it is designing what happens when two frames meet.
Editing premise
Split the cut into three variables
Each test fixes shot order and varies motion continuity, audio lead or lag, and the duration of black. Results are read not as fast or slow, but by when the viewer begins expecting the next image.
Three cut tensions
- 01
Motion
Continue or collide
Matching direction hides a cut; opposing direction makes it an event.
- 02
Sound
Establish expectation first
When audio leads, the next image is imagined before it arrives.
- 03
Absence
Make time felt
A brief black frame breaks continuity and amplifies the residue of the previous image.
